BADGER FACTS
The 5th Grade students are currently reading Incident at Hawk's Hill, a story that follows the interesting relationship between a boy and a badger in the 1800's Canadian prairie. They researched some interesting facts about badgers... look at some of their results below:

CREATURE EXCHANGE
This fall, the 4th and 5th grade GT students had a Creature Exchange with the gifted students in Ms. Parra's class at Cielo Vista Elementary. Working in groups, the students created creatures and sent the descriptions only to the kids at Cielo Vista. They created creatures of those descriptions, and in return sent descriptions of their own. We then revealed the end products in a video conference. It was an educational and fun experience for all involved! See the results in the document below!

HYPERBOLE POETRY
As part of our first Principal's Writing Wall, the 5th grade students wrote hyperbole poetry. Hyperboles are exaggerations that authors can use to emphasize a point or to create a mental image. They are found throughout the tall tales they have been writing. Here are a couple of examples:

STORYBIRD
Storybird is a wonderful writing tool that allows students to become actual published authoers. Below you will find a sample of some of the storie the 4th and 5th graders have created. Each of these story books has an actual copyright...making our students copyrighten authors!
